Nokia 8 has entered the Indian market as a value proposition, offering a QHD screen, Snapdragon 835 processor, and dual rear camera setup at a price of Rs. 36,999. At this price, the Nokia 8 is positioned between the two OnePlus 5 variants, but they won't be the only competition the new smartphone has to fend off. Sony also launched the Xperia XZ1 in India earlier this week, another smartphone with flagship features. Each of the three smartphones has its own strengths that give it an edge over the competition, so it will be difficult to determine which one is the best model to buy among this lot. We go through the Nokia 8 price in India, specifications, and unique features and compare them with those of Sony Xperia XZ1 and OnePlus 5 to help you figure out which model would suit your needs best.

Nokia 8 vs Sony Xperia XZ1 vs OnePlus 5 price in India

First talking about the Nokia 8, the smartphone has been priced in India at Rs. 36,999 and will be made available from October 14 on Amazon India, Croma, Reliance, Sangeetha Mobiles, Poorvika, and BigC, apart from other offline stores. The Nokia 8 will be made available in Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, and Steel colour variants in the country. The launch offers for the smartphone include 100GB of additional Jio data - 10GB extra data a month for up to 10 recharges (Rs. 309 and above) until August 2018. Nokia 8 consumers will also have access to special Nokia Mobile Care Concierge Service in 50 cities across the country.

On the other hand, the Sony Xperia XZ1 has been priced at Rs. 44,990 in India and has already been made available starting September 25 via both offline and online stores. The Xperia XZ1 will be made available just in Black colour variant in the country. The smartphone will be bundled with a Quick Charger 3.0 UCH1.2, and other launch offers include a Rs. 1,000 discount on the Rs. 3,490 Style Stand Cover; 5 percent cashback on HDFC and ICICI cards, as well as zero percent EMI offers.

Last in the list is the OnePlus 5, which comes in two variants - one with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, and another with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The former is priced at Rs. 32,999, while the latter costs Rs. 37,999. Buyers making the purchase via American Express cards will get Rs. 1,500 instant discount on Amazon India, and no cost EMI option for installments of 3 or 6 months. Other offers include 75GB of free Vodafone data, 3-month subscription to Vodafone Play app, Rs. 500 promotional credit for Kindle ebooks, and 12-month accidental damage protection insurance. There's also Rs. 250 cashback as Amazon Pay balance on using Prime Video on the phone, up to 70 percent discounts on cases and covers for the handset, and discount vouchers worth up to Rs. 25,000 from Cleartrip on buying OnePlus 5.

While the highlight feature of Nokia 8 and Sony Xperia XZ1 is their respective camera department, they offer drastically different options to the users. With Nokia 8, HMD Global has introduced its 'bothies' feature, which allows users to take photos or videos using the front and rear cameras simultaneously. The Nokia 8 smartphone has further been optimised for one-touch live-streaming via Facebook Live and YouTube Live. The handset also comes with OZO Audio tech for spatial 360-degree audio recording (using 3 microphones), including an Audio Focus mode.

Notably, the Nokia 8 comes with a dual camera setup at the back, which consists of two 13-megaixel sensors - one of which is an RGB sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), while the other is a monochrome sensor. Both the sensors have an aperture of f/2.0, 1.12-micron pixel elements, phase detection autofocus, a 76.9-degree wide-angle lens, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), dual-tone LED flash, and an IR range finder. At front, the Nokia 8 bears another 13-megapixel sensor with PDAF, 1.12-micron pixels, an f/2.0 aperture, and an 78.4-degree wide-angle lens. All three cameras on the Nokia 8 come with Carl Zeiss optics.

Moving on to the Sony Xperia XZ1, the smartphone comes with a MotionEye 19-megapixel Exmor RS sensor camera with 3D scanning abilities. The rear camera supports 5-axis stabilisation and is capable of doing slow-motion video recording at 960fps, just like the Xperia XZ Premium, in addition to 4K video recording. At front, Sony Xperia XZ1 features a 13-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and 22mm wide-angle lens for group selfies. It is also powered by Sony's Exmor RS mobile imaging sensor.

OnePlus 5 also has a dual rear camera setup that we quite liked in our review. The rear camera setup includes a 16-megapixel 1.28-inch sensor with f/1.7 aperture, and EIS, and a 20-megapixel 1.28-inch sensor with f/2.6 aperture; users get 1.6x optical zoom and phase-detection autofocus with the camera. The front camera has 16-megapixel resolution, f/2.0 aperture, and EIS. It supports Auto HDR and can shoot full-HD videos, while the rear camera can capture 4K videos.

Sony Xperia XZ1 vs Nokia 8 specifications

Moving on to the specifications, the dual-SIM (Nano) Nokia 8 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, with an update to Android 8.0 Oreo promised. The smartphone sports a 5.3-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) IPS display with 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The Nokia 8 is IP54 rated, which effectively makes it splash proof handset. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC (4 Kryo cores clocked at 2.5GHz and 4 Kryo cores clocked at 1.8GHz) coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM.

The Nokia 8 comes with 64GB of inbuilt UFS2.1 storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration. The connectivity options offered by the handset include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C (v3.1), and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Nokia 8 houses a 3090mAh non-removable battery and measures measures 151.5x73.7x7.9mm.

On the other hand, the Sony Xperia XZ1 runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box and sports a a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) HDR display powered by Sony's Triluminos display and X-Reality technology configured for mobiles and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The smartphone is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 540 GPU.

In terms of storage, the Sony Xperia XZ1 comes with 64GB of inbuilt storage with an option to expand it further using a microSD card (up to 256GB). The connectivity options offered by the smartphone include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB OTG, USB Type-C, and GPS among others. The Sony Xperia XZ1 has its fingerprint scanner embedded on the power button. It houses a 2700mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0. The smartphone is water and dust resistant with an IP68 certification. It measures 148x73x7.4mm and weighs 156 grams.

OnePlus 5 has a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED full-HD screen with Gorilla Glass 5, and packs the Snapdragon 835 processor (four 2.45GHz cores + four 1.9GHz cores). The Android Nougat-based smartphone comes in the two configurations mentioned above, 6GB+64GB (and 8GB+128GB. For connectivity, the phone comes with USB Type C 2.0 connector, fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and GPS. The battery capacity of the handset is 3300mAh, with Dash Charge support.
