Asus India, as expected, on Monday unveiled new variant of the ZenFone Max smartphone in India. The all-new ZenFone Max (2016) now comes in two memory options, increased inbuilt storage, as well as an octa-core processor.

The new Asus ZenFone Max (2016) will come in 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM variants priced at Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 12,999. The new variants will come with an all-new octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 clocked at 1.5GHz and will now pack 32GB of inbuilt storage. The new ZenFone Max variants run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, another improvement from the earlier Android 5.0 Lollipop running on the original ZenFone Max. The Taiwanese company has also announced two new colours for the ZenFone Max (2016) - Blue and Orange. The 2GB RAM variant is now available to buy via Flipart, while the 3GB RAM variant is listed as coming soon.

To recall, the original ZenFone Max launched in January featured a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC and came with 16GB of storage. The company has not stopped the sale of the original ZenFone Max which is still available online at a reduced price of Rs. 8,999.

Rest of the specifications of the ZenFone Max are same as the original model. The biggest highlight of the ZenFone Max (2016) is its 5000mAh battery which the company says can work as a power bank for other devices. Notably, the battery on the handset is non-removable. The company claims that the ZenFone Max (2016) can deliver up to 914 hours of standby time and up to 38 hours of talk time.

Other specifications include a 5.5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS TFT display; supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 64GB).

The handset, similar to original ZenFone Max smartphone in India, supports Indian LTE bands. It packs accelerometer, compass, proximity, and ambient light sensors. The dual-SIM device sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and Laser Auto-Focus feature. It also comes with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Other connectivity options include 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS, Glonass, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.
