Lei Jun, Founder and CEO of Xiaomi, has revealed the feat and also set a target for next year. It's worth pointing out that the 70 million shipped units represent the figures for only 10 months this year which means that this figure will surely go up in the coming two months. Jun added that Xiaomi will look to reach 100 million shipments in 2018.

The company claims that it achieved over 10 million shipments in September as well as in October, something CEO Jun and VP Manu Kumar Jain had also revealed last week.

Talking to Chinese media, Jun revealed the company's previous best figure was 71 million units shipped in a year.

Chinese brand Xiaomi was also reported to be the fastest growing smartphone brand globally by Counterpoint Research's Market Monitor service. The research claimed that Xiaomi emerged as the fastest growing brand in terms on shipments year-on-year (over 81 percent) driven by strong sales in both China and India. Xiaomi was also the fastest growing brand in both China and India during the quarter, according to research.
